Ah. I thought you meant in terms of immigration. Wouldn't have guessed you meant 9/11.

We're seeing numbers very much like those we saw in the late-90s and the mid-80s. It's not unprecedented. And we're coming out of a relative lull. So I don't think it's necessarily catastrophic.

Had DeSantis or Abbott called their fellow governors and said “please help us resettle refugees,” I doubt one of them would’ve said no.

Instead these people are being misleadingly led onto buses and planes and dropped off in random cities.

The entire country has a responsibility to these people to welcome them, like our ancestors were welcomed here.

A moral responsibility? In perpetuity? Regardless of number of migrants?

While I don't discount the comfort immigrants gain from knowing there's a website where people say bad things about Abbott, Trump et al. (and yell at people who don't say bad enough things about them), I suspect that comfort is limited. If you're of a mind to extend comfort in a different manner, here are a couple of checked-out charities working at ground zero ...

This country has a history of taking in refugees, waves of them, fleeing famine, war, and repression. Those families grow to become simply Americans. The people who are coming here are the smart and motivated ones, willing to sell off or abandon all they have, leave family and friends behind, on the chance of making it here to live and work. Many of them have walked half a continent to make it to our border.

The country needs them, unless you're willing to pick tomatoes or cut up chickens on the line at Tyson Foods. Most are not.

Congress, both parties, needs to sit down and do the hard work of constructing a sensible and workable immigration policy instead of using it as a club against the other party. Alas, the current construction of Congress provides gives me little hope of anything constructive being done on a bilateral basis. If the D's take a majority and pass one, it will of course be absolutely unacceptable to the R's. I blame both sides here, though. It's been decades since Congress has done anything to fix this problem. Both sides have had plenty of time to implement the fix of their choice. Nope.

Musk as he has long done today retweeted an account know for its anti-semitism. The tweet was deleted, but still. If you continue to use Twitter, you're siding with a Jew-hating madman.

I'm not sure I have a point, except to say we've weathered long stretches of intense immigration before and come through it.

Even if one stipulates that "our capacity in services" is being stretched (color me skeptical), that is a human contrivance: It can be increased, and doing so would be child's play.
