The common MAGA talking point is that Trump offered the DC National Guard’s services and Mayor Bowser and Nancy Pelosi declined.
It doesn’t work that way. Only the president, Secretary of Defense and Secretary of the Army have authority over the DC National Guard. Neither the Mayor nor the Speaker have authority to refuse deployment. MAGAs insist the Mayor or the Speaker need to request the deployment, saying “Blah, blah, blah, Sergat Arms; Blah, blah, blah Steven Sund said blah, blah blah…”

That’s not how it works. If Trump wanted the DC National Guard there, it would have been there. There’s nothing Pelosi or Bowser could have done to stop that deployment.

 

In other words . . . bootstraps!?

Shoot - what if the Jan. 6 mob wasn't white? We've seen how little it takes for police officers to feel threatened by people of color and their use of force is justified.
