The decision on VP will probably come down to which candidate can the Dems least afford to lose from their current position -- ie, who are the likely successors?

I suspect she's pretty goddamn popular with the bulk of the party right now.

 

He's be a pretty solid candidate, and the Democratic governor would replace him with another Democrat... but there's not a ton of bench strength there right now, so the next election could be dicey.

Off the top of my head I think Rep. Greg Stanton is someone who would have a decent shot at keeping the seat.

(If you want to turn it into a sitcom they could replace Kelly with Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, likely giving Arizona a divorced couple in the senate.)

 

I don’t know that there is going to be a POTUS or VP again that clears 50 percent approval other than a short-lived honeymoon at the start of their new term. Partisan identification is now trench warfare.

Just like that 3+ years of narrative has been turned on its head. Trump is the old guy now. Trump is the incoherent one now.
And finally he’s facing a trained fighter in the form of a former DA.
Everything’s changed. Kamala can run on the Administration’s amazing record while simultaneously running against all of Trump’s many flaws.
The Republic may be saved after all.

Nah. He won’t deliver his home state. And his home state is Kentucky, which is irrelevant anyway. The only SEC state that might be in play is Georgia, which does matter.
