The double standard that we have for these two people is staggering.

Biden had a bad 20 minutes of a debate, like a basketball team that gets down 30-12 at the end of the first quarter, where he stuttered and stammered with his mouth open and they spent the next three weeks working overtime to run him out of the race. When he gave captive speeches at campaign stops, it was ignored. When he didn't come out like 2008 Obama in interviews with Stephanapolis and Lester Holt, it was covered ad nauseum. The guy was the definition of diplomacy after the shooting and it was all met with a collective, "meh."

Slobbo talks about Hannibal Lecter, "black jobs," how boats with big batteries won't float, how batteries might be eaten by sharks and no one bats an eye. It's insane. He basically has to stay upright and not openly say the N-word (which he just might now with this new opponent).

It's like having two students in a classroom where one needs to get 100-percent on every test in order to earn an A and the other just has to stay awake.

Harris is an old-school drug warrior. If Trump had a brain he could use this against her being part of such a failed effort.

    Anecdotal evidence, but still:

Microville is a very blue town. Today I was at the dog park with 4-5 friends I see pretty much daily, all Democrats. What happened yesterday was all we could talk about. Everyone was excited, energized and fired up about what transpired. Several even mentioned they called and contributed, which they'd never done in the past.

We talked about yesterday's events for almost an hour while our dogs played. Everyone was solidly behind Harris and excited to see who her veep would be and ready for her to take on the fat orange POS.

I can only imagine what I experienced today with my little group happening for millions of others Democrats and independents like us in thousands of other cities and towns around America. Excitement and energy for Harris that didn't exist for Biden. Renewed hope.

And $75 million in donations in less than 24 hours is unbelievable. Money talks. It's real evidence, not anecdotal, that today this election looks 100% better than yesterday if you're a Democrat.

If we're going to use an apt sports analogy, Joe Biden is 43-year-old Steve Carlton with the Twins, his fastball gone and getting hammered to the gaps with every pitch. Going to Kamala Harris doesn't necessarily mean a comeback victory but it flips the script and the momentum for now in a big way.

It removes the malaise of having a rematch of two old white men. Knowing that Trump's ceiling is probably no more than what he got in 2020 -- 74 million -- the potential voters who might have sat this out because of whatever personal issues they had with Biden are now back in play. I'm not saying Harris is the panacea but at least the campaign isn't sinking like a rock like it's been since the debate.

Biden had zero chance of winning. At least with Harris, it's better than zero. We might not know how much until the campaign gets momentum.

Suddenly, the Democrats have the ability to outflank the GOP instead of retreating from a direct assault. Harris needs to be visible in Atlanta, Macon, Savannah, Durham, Charlotte, Detroit, Flint, Philadelphia, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. And if the running mate is Kelly, he's going to pound Arizona and Nevada.

This election hinges on the Rust Belt or the New South, in places where people of color and marginalized citizens reside -- and perhaps can be pursuaded to get out and vote.

The reason why the GOP tries to scare its base into voting is because they're rich old white men who realize that their power is disappearing with every immigrant who wants a better life in the United States. They want to take away rights of people who they've denigrated for the past 250 years: women, minorities, the poor, the homeless.

And they definitely know they're outnumbered if all those people in the swing states realize they can make a difference this fall.

The Democrats need to hit hard on Project 2025 because the election isn't about Trump as much as the GOP wanting to take over the country.

Are you a woman? Republicans want to tell you what you can and can't do with your own body. Are you a person of color or an immigrant? Republicans want to keep you from voting, or send you away by the millions. Do you have children? Republicans want to shut down Head Start and wreck public education. Are you hungry? Republican want to take away your food stamps. Are you homeless? Republicans want to push home prices higher and keep you in poverty. Are you worried about the future of the planet? Republicans want to wreck the environment for their own selfish reasons.

That's the message that Kamala Harris and the Democratic party need to hammer over and over. The GOP is scared of you. That's why they trot out dog whistle issues in an effort to distract voters from the fact that they have no solutions.

Biden is analogous to Truman, two senators who were VPs to much more famous presidents who went 1-for-1 in POTUS elections, each defeating a NYer who had big advantages. Both had to deal with a recalcitrant Congress, and NATO loomed large in the foreign policy of both presidencies.

Both ended their presidencies really unpopular. Historians have been very kind to Truman. They might be to Biden too.

If they got away with rebranding the Affordable Care Act "Obamacare," then Democrats should be able to pull off renaming it, "Trump's Project 2025."

Future Forward, the main Biden Super PAC, has reported raising $150 million in the 24 hours since Biden left the race. Add that to the $100 million for Harris through ActBlue small contributions and that's a quarter of a billion dollars raised in one day.

The next time the Secret Service director says "I don't know," someone on the committee needs to scream "third base!"
