As stated above, Manchin is a politician who delivered the pork/agenda for his constituents. He was a red state Democrat who knew that he had the party by the short ones and wasn’t afraid to squeeze to get what he wanted, because he might have been the only blue affiliated person who was going to be elected. That being said, he milked his “I’m just a centrist thing” for all that it was worth so that he got great press. He was never serious about running for the big chair.
