Except he wasn't a shitty candidate. He did FAR better than any other Democrat in a statewide race that year, and was leading in the polls until the final weeks.

What happened? The DNC and Dem Senate campaign gave him little to no support, while Mitch McConnell got the Republican Senate fund to funnel, IIRC, $100 million dollars to his campaign/PACs in the final month of the campaign.

Ryan got blasted by TV ads and the last month, and only then fell behind in the polls.

 

And he doubled down. Blud.

 

Good. I’ll set a reminder.

 

I want that hat.

Honestly, in some ways I've never felt "included" by the Democratic party - they do great outreach to LGBTQ, people of color, labor, vets, women - they never seem to target white dudes. Imagine one of those DNC speeches with someone like me - "I FEEL SEEN! KAMALA SEES ME! I AM SOME-BODY!"

But it needs a better name.

 

The white women have raised $8.5 million so far.

 

Just give me a trucker hat that says Harris for President on a cool little patch and we're good. Can leave the "white dudes" part off and still send that message.

 

It's almost like these folks have zero experience navigating an urban environment.

 

There’s a passage in there that sums up the whole case for me.

Kamala Harris needs to put together some succinct form of “We’ll work on the economic stuff together to ease the burdens on your wallet. But we shouldn’t have to give in to these bullies and jerks to get there. Most Americans are sick of demonizing teachers and threatening librarians and thinly disguised racist insults and people throwing an absolute hissy fit the first time they don’t get their way. Enough is enough.”

 

I too will join that call. Or try to anyway. It'll likely be packed.
