I almost think the Dems should approach him and ask him to stay IN the race - probably nothing would get him to drop out quicker.

Random question I thought of: Can't call myself much of a presidential historian, but has any other president outlived multiple successors, like Jimmy has? I know Reagan was about 10 years older than Jimmy (which helps explain that), though HW Bush was just a few months older than Jimmy.
