This isn't that hard.

Again - every political candidate is weird to some degree. But most have a counterbalance to it.

Vance and Trump do not. Many of the extreme, severely online MAGA heads do not.

If you want a less polite alternative for weird in this context, then the word that fits is psychopath. Their weirdness is marked by an intense superficial personality, well-documented lying, lack of empathy, incredible narcissim, and more. Trump and Vance are two habitual grifters who have such strange views of the world that they bring up topics and scenarios that no one else is remotely thinking about.

I'm willing to wager a lot of parents, when they're having an important phone call, have thought "shut the hell up" in relation to their kid yapping at them. And I've heard plenty of parents say it.

But perhaps you travel in a circle of people with incredible equanimity as parents.
