    Sure.

But some offsetting percentage will be drawn back by the relatively lower cost of living. Especially housing.

If you build enough rural internet, in a work-from-home world, they'll stay in Kansas or Nebraska or Tennessee.

Cottonwood Falls, Kansas is a good recent example of a dead prairie town reanimated.

    The straight kids might.

Also, my old stomping grounds is a college town that sits midway in the void between Nashville and Knoxville, with plenty fast internet. My generation doesn’t qualify as bright young minds any more, but of the academically-inclined ones I keep up with, most are out of state. A couple more scattered in Nashville and Knoxville. One in rural East Tennessee, but close enough to Tri Cities to sustain a law practice. Only one or two stuck around Podunk.

I work from home, and as soon as it’s financially feasible, I’m calling it quits on city life and moving to a lake somewhere.

Did someone say trains?! Barstow is the gateway to BNSF's southern transcon, after you head up glorious Cajon Pass from San Berdoo.

I flew back to visit family in Nashville last month via a brand-new direct flight from Ontario to BNA. At the gate, two groups of people were talking -- a member of each knew someone in the other, and struck up a conversation -- and turned out each group had people in it who were moving to Middle Tennessee -- including a young woman who was an LA Firefighter and she's moving to join the Murfreesboro department. The exodus is real.
Then once on the ground in Nashville I couldn't help but laugh at how terrible the traffic is, in some part due to all the people from California who moved to a region to get out of traffic, only to find said region couldn't care less about investing in infrastructure. Although they are finally adding toll lanes between Murfreesboro and Nashville, which is another California export the locals are hating on. LOL.

I just figured who’s keeping that railroad show on RFD-TV alive.

    Unsurprising news is unsurprising.

We have to crush the Christofascists (and the tinpot dictator they’re using as a host organism) once and for all.
