This happened on Sunday. The best part is that it came out that his staff arranged for forensics IT folks to investigate and show - as Robinson claimed publicly - that he didn't actually make those posts.

He declined to have the tech folks help. His staff then resigned en masse.

On Higgins, read what the Speaker said. That he’s passionate and that he prayed about what he wrote and decided to delete the tweet. How about show a little bit of you alleged piousness and say that what he wrote was fucking racist and inexcusable.

There is no guarantee a national election favors the Democrats.

Currently, it doesn't matter who wins the national vote; it has no more bearing on who wins than does "team that put the ball through the hoop more times" has bearing on who wins a pro basketball game. The electoral college is the rules of the game, and whoever wins the college wins the game.

Change the rules, and the campaign strategies will change, too.

No, he deleted it because they twisted his arm.

Redemption is earned. It’s not a get out a horrific tweet card you play. And Higgins is the polar opposite of a principled man, unless that principle is racism

Yes, the millions and millions of voters who gave the Democrats more popular votes in 7 of the last 8 presidential elections (and 8 of 9 after this year) will suddenly begin voting Republican if the electoral college disappeared.

Can't argue with that kind of logic, no sir.

A national vote brings a third party into play. Big time. Every four years. Just a different game.

It is amazing to me people don't grasp this.

Not all of us are as perceptive as some, apparently.

How is any of this negative?

Other countries function just fine with third parties, and fourth parties, and fifth parties. It forces compromise and governance, rather than blind cheerleading for the red or blue team.

And, frankly, kicking the electoral college to the curb in favor of a popular vote and the creation of additional parties might actually finally shelve the idiocy running rampant in politics. Instead of the GOP catering to the lunatics, there will be a path for moderates. Instead of single issue anarchist communists trying to railroad the Democratic party, there will be a path for sensible progressive policies.

When you force a party to be a big tent, it means you have to crowd everyone in who comes close to agreeing with you in order to win. When you allow a bunch of modest to smaller tents who can form coalitions as they please on various issues, it allows for a bit more sanity and actual governance.
