I was shocked at how good Vance seemed. He definitely looked and sounded like he won the debate -- a dangerous thing, given that so many people also still seem to think that Trump, for some reason, is fit for office.

The thing is, though, is that there was enough evasion and lying by Vance that it offset his performative/presentation strengths.

I would still rather have Harris/Walz in office over Trump/Vance just for the greater positivity, normalcy, genuineness, and hopefully, honesty. We need those things badly.

Vance’s vision for America is banning abortions, gay marriage, contraception, no fault divorce, homosexuality, etc. I really don’t care if he was smooth on the stage.

Because every gotcha/lie/anything that can be pegged as a lie matters in an election that features a habitual, serial liar, and you're trying to show/prove that it's not you.

Although Trump merch is a drop in the ocean, Walz could have easily hit back on some of this with "Why does all Trump merchandise carry a 'Made in China' tag?

    White suburban women:

Walz seemed nervous, that could be a deal breaker. Meanwhile, Vance didn’t promise to rape anyone. I like that in a candidate

But, clearly, not everyone is as discerning as you. That has been proven by Trump's presence and all the support that he gets, for some reason, no?

For those that ascribe to body language, the VP debate was so cordial I wonder how many times each opponent nodded 'yes' while the other was speaking. I've thought of this often since the Hillary debate against Obama. She obviously looked at him in support and nodded yes to many, many things he said. To agree too often equals fail.

Uh..white suburban women? (I'll take that as a jab at me, like Songbird's apparent dig). But you are missing the point with the sarcasm.

No, not white suburban women. Rather all the people/MAGAs who STILL support Trump, for some unknown reason, and especially, all the less-than-informed, less-discerning undecideds who could certainly have been influenced by Vance's performative strength. Just as they have been by Trump's.

Substance already has been definitively shown to not matter. At all. Hasn't it?

Trump maintains his voters because belief in white supremacy is the strongest political force in our country and always has been. Of course, its most devout adherents are themselves proof white supremacy is a crock of shit, but no matter. That's Trump's real strength "the worst of us is entitled to rule the rest of you no matter what."

Had this conversation with an optimistic friend, and I'll take the hope it gives me for a day or so:

One thing few people ever think about with polling margin of error: what if you ADD that polling error to the person leading? Isn't that what Dems have done in the midterms and special elections the last few years?

    Dream, baby, dream.
