President Biden: The NEW one and only politics thread

Most of what is being requested by the Trump campaign - assuming the accuracy of what's in the quoted tweet - is already in place. The State Board of Elections unanimously passed a resolution Monday that gives the local election boards in 13 counties a great deal more autonomy than they normally have to do things like change polling sites, consolidate polling sites, use workers living out-of-county, adjust early voting hours based on staffing, and a whole bunch of seemingly minor administrative tasks that normally have to go through the SBOE for final approval. One of the big ones is that absentee ballots can now be turned in to any county's board of elections, not just the one for the county the voter lives in.

I hate the way politics has already been injected into the disaster response, but it does look like voting in western North Carolina will be an issue - some polling places are simply gone now - and there's not a lot of time for local boards to figure it out, while also dealing with the disaster around them and in their own lives. I expect to see some level of depressed turnout in those 13 hard hit counties, and all but Buncombe County (Asheville) are GOP strongholds.

 

Laziest story for me was the man on the street article. They loved sending us out to ask people what they thought about gas prices when they would spike.

 

How is that a dangling participle?

 

Almost. the headline ends up being: Kamala Harris mocked over yet another ‘accent’ during Stephen Colbert ‘Late Show’ appearance

 

Kelly didn't leave the White House. Trump did.

Should have been something like, "After Trump had left the White House, Kelly described the former president as . . .

 

The best people

 

The Harris campaign should run non-stop ads showing Trump disrespecting the military.

His comments on McCain. His comments on Gold Star families. The suckers and losers comment. And the insults above directed at active service members who happen to be gay.

 

Most of that stuff is "Woodward wrote that so-and-so said that Trump said . . . "

Not exactly great soundbite stuff for a good ad.

 

I'm sure his kids will thank hom for the compliment whenever he sees them again.
