We had a staff meeting today as a social studies department about how we’re going to handle the day after Election Day. Admin is concerned about how exactly we approach it because some teachers in other departments didn’t handle 2020 or 2016 well and parents got mad.

    1) the fact we have to worry about parents is concerning
    2) it hit harder that Trump legitimately can win and there’s solid evidence to suggest he will
    3) I started really thinking about my LGBTQ kiddos and my girls and how are they going to react. My immigrants. My son.

It’s becoming a little much. I don’t have a thing to point to and say “this right here says it will work out ok.” In 2016, the polls were so wrong and we really didn’t know what Trump would be. In 2020, there was a national crisis and a ground swell of support for Biden and, yes, POLLZ!!!eleventy!!!! This time, there’s a thing in the air. It’s different.

Maybe it’s just a vibe from other teachers that I’m feeling. I don’t know. I thought I was handling it. Today hit hard. I looked up at my pride flags and am worried I’m going to have concerned parents emboldened by Project 2025 tell me I can’t have them.

sorry this is going off the rails from what I intended.

Vote. Bring someone with you. I’m going to work on my “it’s you going to be fine but here are the results” speech for Wednesday.

I really think if we can get rid of Trump for good after this election, things will go back to a more traditional/sane Democrat/Republican party set-up/competition/election.

Trump is uniquely Trump. There's not really anybody else who we think of as him, or even "him, but..." Vance would probably be the closest thing, but I think if Trump goes away, he will, too.

Also, I think, given the chance, and some time and hindsight/perspective, the more normal Republicans, or versions of them, will want, and be willing and unafraid, to finally take their party back. They cannot possibly still actually be thinking that Trump, or anything like him, is what would be best for our country. It is just that right now, they, and we, are stuck with him as their option.

Our biggest problem in the future, as long as Harris wins, is going to be the unscrupulous Supreme Court with which Trump will have left us.

My wife went to Kamala’s rally in Harrisburg today. Estimated 12–15,000 in attendance with good energy. A lot more white people than she expected, but said the crowd was energized and one of the biggest cheers came when they asked if we’re ready to get rid of Scott Perry.

Hopefully he'll be wearing that to pick up trash along with fellow prisoners next year.

This has probably been brought up before but as bad as it would have been if Trump would have won in 2020 I think it's going to be so much worse if he wins next week.

The whole vibe is vengeance. Not hope and prosperity.

I don't want to "like" your post. But I totally agree with it. And how a lot of people don't see or believe this is almost inconceivable.

He has no positive reasons for running or wanting to be President. He has no policies, no specifics he has ever spoken of, no ideas that are actually feasible and acceptable, either almost universally, or long-term. It is only all about him and just whatever he wants to say, and, unfortunately, what he will be able to make other people accept and do if he is in power -- the definition of an autocrat, and not a benevolent one.
