Biden should resign on Jan. 19 and have Harris sworn in just to screw up all of Trump's 47 stuff and to say Fuck you, you get a black female president.

Anybody can run. Isn't that what America is about? Two goddamn "coronation" nominations of women. How did that go?

I had no problem voting for a woman president. Somehow I doubted US voters would. IF only Pete were straight. Dems need a white good looking young army vet who was the QB and captain of the football team.

True. It might not have worked, but we know that handing it to Harris did never had a chance to work. She ran a solid campaign. She kicked his ass in the debate. She showed how she is clearly the better option and it didn't matter. This country wasn't going to elect a woman of color.

Then again, maybe it is just the economy and people being stupid enough to think Trump didn't cause a big part of the problem and that he will somehow solve it.

Reading some of the post-mortems and its all pretty predictable. Commentators blaming whatever part of the left they dislike "Wokism" "Cancel Culture" etc. Maybe Trump is just a freak of nature - the normal laws of politics don't work on him. He's bulletproof (no pun intended). Who knows where we'll be in four years. Or maybe our country will just continue to ying and yang back and forth from disaster to blame to disaster to blame. I will give Trump this (begrudgingly), he has cemented his place into a very unique place in our country's history. Its one of the most confounding results in politics I can think of. His age, his legal problems, his former staffers "un-endorsing" him, and he still comes back after four years out of office. I still don't see the appeal - its just bizarre.
I try to picture a typical voter (not a MAGAn), but one of those people in the middle and I figure they are overextended on their credit cards, working their ass off, hear Biden is forgiving college loans while they never went to college, providing millions to Ukraine and Israel and they wonder when they get "theirs."
Should Dems chuck their long-standing policies and start chasing these voters? Hope Trump is that freak whose success can't be replicated by another GOP candidate?

Inflation and high interest rates killed Carter’s reelection, it happened again in 2024. Although inflation is tamer today.

Mortgage rates NEVER dipped below 10% during Reagan's two terms. They were 13.88% when he won 49 states.

We artificially fucked with them for so long that people think that a 3-4% mortgage should be normal.

And telling people that they're not is political suicide, so we keep fuckin' with them. I may not agree with all of his 37,000 words, but Ragu is right that when the bill comes due and everyone left at the table can't dine n' dash, it's gonna HURT.

It's almost like telling people what they want to hear is easier than having nuanced discussion about why they don't want low interest rates, the benefits of immigration, and the problem with tariffs.

"Everything bad in your life is because of the other and if you just give me power, I'm going to make it all better by making that other guy pay the price."
