Fewer people care about that than they do about the US cheerleading the overthrow of foreign governments.

I gave him as much shit as anyone, but Kamala really needed Ragu to explain to the country why the two-percent mortgage rates they loved so much were harmful in the long term.

Fine. But that's where we're at. It's ALWAYS party over country. ALWAYS.

Is it? Music - the arts - was a driving force for change in the 60s and 70s. (And, with rap, in the 1980s and 1990s.)

    It isn't now. I don't think that's, like, a very dramatic opinion.

Meanwhile, because we got rid of most of the serious talk shows, we have Jimmy "Man Show" Kimmel lecturing the American people. Hell, bring back the 11:30 Nightline for that.

I'm trying to figure out when - and why - the Democratic Party became the moral scolds and the party for restricting free speech. I think that's relevant to the discussion.

The first female president will - probably and sadly - be some weird American Thatcher clone.

I miss Ragu and really hope it wasn't someone here who pissed him off and sent him off the reservation. I really hope its not something health related or personal.

Sometimes the best cure for Republicanism is four years of Republican rule, during which they fuck up everything imaginable and get absolutely nothing done, ie Grover Trump's first administration (Grover Trump is my new name for him. Yes, I'm bitter, petty and small. How coincidental that Grover Cleveland was also a rapist and misogynist).

Someone at the dog park today suggested the real "blue wall" - California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii - secede from the United States. Of course they were not being serious but sometimes it seems like a good idea. I'm convinced we pay more in Federal taxes than we receive in Federal benefits.

At the very least it would restore the Pac-8.

I personally super excited to be part of a party that is lesser popular than Donald F*cking Trump.

One, you used the word "interesting." My apologies for not deciphering that to mean "capable of societal change." That said, I go back to my complaints about algorithms changing our lives. People don't come across new stuff - music, TV shows, books, etc. - because of them. I guess if you're listening to FM radio - but at this point who isn't opting for Sirius/XM, Spotify or streaming music off your phone via Bluetooth or the aux cable? We are so siloed off that everybody has a personalized AI curated culture.

Two, Joe Rogan has more than 14 million followers on Spotify. He has more than 18 million followers on his main YouTube account (and untold numbers for the sub accounts that just post short clips of the podcast). Kimmel averages less than 2 million viewers per show. So maybe you're worried about the wrong former Man Show host affecting the culture. I get it though, Rogan isn't one of The Cools so Kimmel is your preferred punching bag.

Three, "moral scolds" for saying things like "hey, let's not treat trans people and/or immigrants like shit?" And who is trying to restrict free speech? In what way are they doing it?

It is also the idea - happily promoted by the Democratic Party over the last 10 years - that said party is prioritizing and speaking more often to things not related to the economy, health care, immigration, etc.

And then there's the mainstream media's "don't believe your lyin' eyes" routine for the last four years. The economy isn't really that bad. Joe Biden seems quite with it. What immigration problem? It took Joe Biden brain fogging in a debate for reporters to finally pursue the story with the doggedness it deserved for years, and once the media did that, he was out in 3 weeks.

That needed to happen a year before that. It was obvious to everybody then, too. Just report the stories as they are, and the chips usually fall in an honest direction.

    Right... a balanced budget!

I'll look forward to the balanced budget in 2025-28.
