Its affecting all democracies. The curse of Freedom of Speech and and Free Press. Throw in the Internet. It's actually quite a bit like the border situation. We have a wide open border when it comes to speech/press. No filters, everything comes across the border and they are bringing false and dangerous ideas that are hurting our democracy. I don't know if we can cut off the "supply." I think it is a consumption/addiction problem. And both the consumer and the "dealers" are perfectly happy with the arrangement. The consumers are able to get the "news" that helps the world make sense to them, keeps them content if not well-informed. The "dealers" have an ample supply of advertisers wanting access to such a gullible group of consumers who are not discerning, and easily manipulated.
Maybe when disinfo starts targeting Republicans, maybe then something will be done. Not holding my breath.

Heard an interesting analysis today about political realignment. With Dems gaining never Trumpers, but losing urban and less frequent voters to Trump, it might explain why Dems did better than expected in the last mid-terms. Its still unclear if this shift is permanent with more working class voters going with the GOP, but it could flip the narrative that high turnout helps Dems. The 2024 turnout is approaching the 2020 record, so the "when we vote, we win" thing might not be true anymore.

The senators are winning in large part because people voting for trump aren't voting for anyone else, which is insanely stupid with how government works but these people don't care about that. They want Trump and don't care about the Senator, or the governor or the whomever down ballot. They are turning in Trump-only ballots.

Harris and Rosen are within 3,000 votes of each other. Trump has 70,000 more votes than Brown

The GOP is lucky they had enough red state senate seats available to flip and the Maine one wasn't Collins, or it was North Carolina instead of Montana. Otherwise they'd have probably lost the senate because of the cult.

So this cycle, the right lied about Dem policies that will never happen....and lied about Republican policies that definitely will.

Whenever she stops chipping away at Gallego's lead.

She might actually win the thing.

True, but I’d also argue that Dems really need to start demanding equal time on the right wing outlets and start going on there prepared to debate the hosts each and every time. If the outlets refuse, put pressure on them each and every day. Tweet out that Tucker is afraid to have Dems on. Mock them until they host you.
If nothing else, it will at least give Dems a chance to give their side instead of righties having an echo chamber.

Look how well Mayor Pete does when he’s on Fox News. No reason why other Dems can’t do so as well.

GOP voters when I was a kid: Price controls are an evil Stalinist plot

GOP voters today: Government must control prices.

GOP voters when I was a kid: Political violence is completely unacceptable. If you don't get your way, work on the next election. This isn't Nicaragua.

GOP voters today: political violence is completely acceptable when we don't get our way.

GOP voters when I was a kid: Government needs to stay out of our lives.

GOP voters today: Government needs to make gender policies regarding interscholastic athletics a top national priority.

GOP voters when I was a kid: the GOP is the party of the business class because they support upper bracket tax cuts, less regulations, oppose minimum wage and are anti-union

GOP voters today: the GOP is the party of the working class because they support upper bracket tax cuts, less regulations, oppose minimum wage and are anti-union.

GOP voters when I was a kid: I vote for the GOP because they have enacted policies I support

GOP voters today: I support the GOP even though they have never enacted the policies I say I want

GOP voters when I was a kid: I have never heard of the emoluments clause

GOP voters today: I have never heard of the emoluments clause

GOP voters when I was a kid: Shipping American jobs overseas should be illegal

GOP voters today: I pretend to not notice that my party and the economic system i venerate are responsible for offshoring jobs because it is more important to me that liberals are mad and people I don't like are harmed.

GOP voters when I was a kid: My party isn't racist. Frederick Douglass was a Republican

GOP voters today: I'm still mad at the black president who left office years ago, even though he has no influence in today's political environment and whose signature accomplishment I secretly support.

GOP voters when I was a kid: celebrities should stay out of politics

GOP voters today: 100 percent of my favorite presidents, senate candidates and podcasters are celebrities

GOP voters when I was kid: politicians work for us, not the other way around.

GOP voters today: my entire personality and free time are centered around hero worshiping elected officials

GOP voters when I was a kid: hypocrisy is a sin

GOP voters today: being hypocritical is our way to indulge in sick power games rather than doing the hard work required in maintaining principles

The new mayor, Lurie, is not a Republican.

I think Luire labels himself a Democrat, just as Eric Adams does in New York.

He’s been a Democratic fundraiser for years and his wife is in Newsom’s inner circle
