I am curious though how Trump's populism transfers. When I think of populist movements in history they are typically centered on one specific person. Once they go, the "movement" goes with them. And we are talking about this race being decided by just 200,00o votes. A lot of the naysayers are basing their analysis on "if the Dems couldn't beat Trump, they're hopeless" - but polling is indicating Trump was seen by those who voted for him as a good President. This wasn't a case where people thought, ugh he's terrible, but Harris and the Dems are more terrible.

Cleaned my kitchen a bit ago - it really helps if you are looking to do something to get away from feeling crappy about the election.

Here's a data point for you. Jacky Rosen was re-elected in Nevada even though she got fewer votes than Harris. Seventy-thousand Trump voters didn't bother to vote in the Senate race.

Don't know if this is directed at me or not, but what I stated is what I read ... here.
Or how about the fairly recent post (on one of the football threads) suggesting Trump be beheaded. I do remember who posted that.

Well, I know it wasn't me.

Over the years I posted some really nasty things about him, including at some points wishing serious downturn in health or serious improvement in marksmanship skills by certain random actors, but never have I urged him beheaded. Ever.

Because several years ago, I learned, out in the darkness somewhere, they're listening. And if certain combinations of certain words show up, bells start ringing. And at some point they will shut you off.

Recent events have made it prudent to throttle way back with the use of certain words in connection with certain names.

Trump is the most incoherent public speaker in the history of American politics, dude.

“First they say, ‘Sir, how do you do it? How do you wake up in the morning and put on your pants? And I say, ‘Well, I don’t think about it too much.’ I don’t want to think about it because if I think about it too much maybe I won’t want to do it, but I love it because we’re going to do something for this country that’s never been done before.”

Please tell my high school sophomore who came home Wednesday after most of the male teachers and one female one were wearing red ties to celebrate Trump’s win that education is woke.

So The Media is libruhl. Never mind that the Post and LA Times cowered in fear. Never mind that your viewpoint owns Twitter, Facebook et al.
Now education is in need of being rid of “woke.” Nice word choice. Several states have approved the expenditure of public funds for private Trumpist pseudo Christian “schools.”

I think that is how the ballot works in Mew York and San Francisco. In fact, Landon Breed, who the new San Francisco mayor beat, won as the most conservative candidate in ranked choice voting last time. Lurie, the new mayor, ran to her right.

The problem conservative mayors face is that it is easy to clear the homeless out of their campgrounds. Jut send some police down to clean it up. But the homeless have to sleep somewhere. Where do they go?

Harris did offer policy ideas, too. Many in the media and the voters chose to ignore them. I had someone tell me she said nothing to address the lack of affordable housing, for example, even though one of the things she campaigned on was building more housing to address this problem.

He’s really proven to have no coattails, and not just in Nevada.
