When the white, poor rural school districts are bankrupt because everyone with money has snagged a voucher, maybe they'll finally realize they've been used as political pawns for the last few decades.

They're corrupt, too, so they figured it was their best bet to stay out of jail and/or keep their money.

I do love all of the ranting about "woke is broke" by talking heads responding to the election. Most analysis says inflation was the deal-breaker among the voters who flipped to the Rs this time around. Do you think Fox and Friends would EVER spend a single segment responding to an election loss by thinking "Maybe people think we're just a-holes?" Nope. Heck, I don't even think they said maybe we shouldn't have been so harsh on abortion or the border. It's always the economy. If people think the economy is good, the social issues stuff doesn't matter, on either side. And yet, that's what the talking heads obsess over - probably because they can't relate to bread and butter issues (and prices).

Much of the post-mortem hand-wringing of this disaster is unsuprisingly contradictory. Dems focused too much on Trump! Dems need a villain!

Look, if somebody wanted to vote for Trump after January 6th, after the convictions, after the indictments, after the millions of insane ramblings, after the racist lies, NOTHING can be done to convince them to do otherwise. Nothing.

The lack of "this guy is too crazy to be POTUS" is overwhelming. The hatred of Dems and their policies is as well...much stronger than any hatred I have for the GOP or its policies. How do I know that? I've never voted for a psychotic Russian asset/racist rapist/clown/ignoramus/rapidly declining septuagenarian in order to stop the GOP.

Maybe this should be a separate thread, but is anyone reconsidering holiday plans with family over this?

They are counting on those children growing up without being educated enough to understand that.

It crossed my mind, but why do you ask?

The issue salience of immigration is also extremely vexing. Much of the anti side is so irredeemably ugly. And America is such a valued place to which people want to immigrate, of course there will be big numbers, especially during a Dem presidency. So we get absolutely PUNISHED for being less draconian and xenophobic AND because America is the top place for people yearning to be free. Or it used to be.

Because I'm heading back to Pittsburgh for the Clemson game alone Saturday and having to have an uncomfortable conversation with my mom when I arrive that wife has no desire to go to my aunt (my mom's sister) and uncle's this Christmas. Some of you may remember my story about my uncle going into a lengthy after dinner conversation with my wife about every Fox News talking point last year. That alone was obnoxious and was only started because of the position my wife holds in Pennsylvania state government. Add in the fact that these two are now bordering on evangelical (if they didn't vote for him, they damn sure rooted). Oh and she's half-Black, so she's probably processing a lot of this in different ways than you and I would.

Just wondered if anyone else is facing these types of conversations.

Nearly all my family has been MAGA’d out all along, so a Harris win wasn’t changing that. With the exception of my brother going way, way over the line on my Facebook feed after Biden won (he let it drop after mom lit him up pretty good), we’ve mostly left the topic alone with each other. I’m crushed that their interpretation of Christianity led them to … this, but it isn’t new information by now. So I can either sit and stew with my Waffle House coffee or I can try and make the best of what scraps I can find out of this collapse of society and decency.

My situation isn’t yours though. Absolutely follow your wife’s lead and protect her peace. You don’t ever have to apologize for that.
