Ben Domenech, right-wing troll and husband of the odious Meghan McCain, shows that a stopped clock is right twice a day:

There have been a couple of in-school issues involving students and teachers in Southern California after the election. I'd be curious to hear from the teachers on this board what they've heard or thought of the situations, and how they've handled any lessons over the past week or so in regard to the election.

One involved a high school teacher who just didn't like the result of the election, and he told his students so in no uncertain terms. The other involved a student that wore a MAGA hat to class and refused to take it off. Although there is a rule against hats in class, the teacher was more offended politically/personally than anything.

Like him, I do wonder if kids really understand why they're supporting Trump, if they are. Of note is the fact that both incidents inspired student walk-outs in support of the teachers.

Southern California teacher placed on leave after anti-Trump rant in front of students

    and

After teacher's anti-Trump rant in classroom, Moreno Valley school district places him on leave

Even though the teachers didn't use appropriate language to make their points, I think I'd support them, as well. They spoke truth to their students at a time when that is much needed in efforts to counter other influences.

Matt Gaetz may be pardoned and sent to live in the broom closet at Mar a Lago once he has accomplished his main task - making dozens if not hundreds of upstanding DOJ career employees resign in disgust at the rape of the rule of law.

The ironies, rightly listed in the first two paragraphs of this article for The Independent, really make things hit home.

We were expressly told to avoid sharing opinions for this exact reason. Apparently we had problems with non social studies teachers stepping in it with our more MAGA crowd.

Social studies handled it a couple of ways. Some (including me) just stood pat with lessons we had to finish. I have a test the Friday after so the day after the election was review and study guide. Some had check ins. We had girls crying and were very upset. One civics teacher hit it dead on. No emotion, just facts. He had five girls crying.

Anyone who asked me what I felt, I turned it on them. I asked them their reactions. I was honest that I didn’t want to push beliefs onto them or that I wasn’t ready to talk. The one exception was a girl asking if I was going to move to Canada. I said I couldn’t leave them behind.

I had one boy ask about wearing a MAGA hat and if he’d get in trouble. I don’t think he’s Maga but a button pusher with a good heart. I said it’s his right to wear such a hat, but we may force him to take it off if problems started. I told him we had a responsibility to student safety over the First Amendment. Luckily the other high school in my district (if I can sort of out myself here) was the site of the Cinco De Mayo incident with the kids wearing the American Flag shirts. So I could mention that and the kid knew exactly what I meant.

As for this teacher, emotions run hot, but you have to control yourself. Parents (especially MAGA parents) are not reasonable. This guy should have known better. Have a discussion or punt and talk with colleagues. Then again, my former partner teacher had a heart to heart with her classes where she vented. But that school has a huge immigrant population so that message hits different. Personally, I’m scared. God knows how Trump is going to fuck this up. I’m quite liberal and I’m not shy about my support for LGBTQ and immigrants rights. I’m scared my liberalism will put a target on my back even if I’m even handed (I had kids despite my big American Pride flag hanging above my desk try to get me to admit I was happy Trump was elected).
