IIRC, Medicaid is a program for people who CANNOT pay their bills, with low incomes and resources, and screening ostensibly to ensure this is the case. It assumes that most people will be able fund their health care through insurance (or out of pocket) and thus is not funded to serve every person with medical bills.

SSI is much more robustly funded, because it assumes anyone living will be drawing on the trust fund.

I'm paying into the system that funds unemployment, but that doesn't mean I should be able to file for unemployment while drawing a paycheck. The whole idea behind paying into all these things we pay into is to hope you never need it --- but for it to be there if you do. Cheaters in any system dilute those funds, making the pool of money smaller for those who need it.

He can obtain insurance, same as the rest of us.

Social Security was originally intended only as an absolute disaster measure -- it was adopted in 1935 in the depths of the Depression when thousands of elderly were dying penniless in the street.

At the time of the adoption of SS, life expectancy for American adults was 63 for men, 65 for women, so more than half of the population wouldn't live long enough to qualify.

That will be the first target point for SS reform: raise the median qualification age to the current life expectancy. Currently that is 79 years.

In addition, it's commonly reiterated that SS was not intended to be a "retirement fund"

People officially have no idea what they want in 2024.

“I love Barack Obama and I love Donald Trump.” What do you do with that? What do you do? How do you put together a platform other than promising people magic tricks that will magically and inexplicably improve their life? The only thing the two have in common is deficit spending and photogenic-ness.

“Trump will improve the economy by lowering interest rates, which is dependent on the economy improving.” YOU CAN’T EVEN ARGUE WITH CIRCULAR LOGIC THAT ROUND AND PERFECT.

    It’s hopeless.

Another great sketch idea for SNL. Seeing potential Dem candidates try to "Trumpersize" themselves and be a-holes, while also promising green jobs, healthcare, and childcare. Michelle Obama gorging on McDonalds, Newsom bragging about his infidelities, Gretchen Whitmer saying those who plotted to kidnap her were probably just misunderstood and very fine people, Mayor Pete taking up MMA and rapping with Joe Rogan, Josh Shapiro saying Penn State should give up their playoff spot to a fifth or sixth SEC team...

Fair enough. Thanks for a comprehensive, thoughtful answer.
