Dear god, the engagement bait at the end of that tweet is horrendous.

And he had a lot of help. A lot.

I know you're not piling on. I just think it's a ridiculous complaint in the scheme of things, and considering the importance of this thread, especially lately. But, apparently, I'm different from most on here. I'm on the Biden/Trump politics thread, so, I don't know, I expect that the links posted here are going to be concerning that, or other related issues. And I trust that that's the case because I consider people here to be smart and like-minded enough to handle things that way.

It's so funny that you picked that particular post out, too, because I think it is the very first and maybe only time that I've ever posted a link with nothing else -- no comment, opinion, perspective or information, and that happened to also not include a headline (because it's an MSN draw from somewhere else). I even specifically remember doing it, and thinking how I needed to add something to it. But, frankly, I just couldn't. I've posted so many informative, interesting and important (I think) links lately in my efforts to stay informed and keep up with this disgusting administration we're going to have coming into the Presidency that, yeah, I can actually feel myself starting to suffer a little fatigue, and in that instance, I was exhausted and I just could not summon the energy to add something, when all people have to do is click on the link. I don't post garbage that's not worth looking at, so I don't expect others to consider it such unless I put something that's already in the link on the post (so that, then, you don't even have to actually look at the link and get the full information like you probably should!).

When I'm on this thread, it means I want to be on it, and that I'm looking for information and perspective. So, therefore, I read just about everything on it. I don't say to myself, "Somebody here might've posted a pointless thing that's not worth reading, so I'm not going to click on it if they don't add something that's already within it."

And I don't think that's so hard to understand, either. (Not that any of this has anything to do with people understanding. We're all smart enough to understand all of it).

It's not enough. A paragraph or two determines whether I click or not.

There are also a shit-ton of d-bs on here. Posting a summary of a link lets everyone else know, "I've already seen that here. Twice, in fact."

Vague set-up lines aren't enough, either. Posting the hed and a graf or two, again, is an expected board courtesy. It saves time because it prevents us all from clicking on a topic or tangent or a source, etc., we don't want to pursue.

And this is not to single you out. It's been explained before by moddies, but it's been a long while, so this is a good time to re-establish courtesy protocol regarding links.

Yes. And how about a protocol for posting tweets/truths/threads/blueskys -- as in don't post one without explaining who the author is and why their opinion/analysis matters.

A lot of words to say “i do what I want, i don’t care if you engage because I’m smart enough to know you want this article”. JFC i don’t care if you don’t add some context, but I’m also not clicking on blind links. Dont you get that?
