An excellent story on the first 18 months of Brett Kavanaugh.

The headline is cheap and unhelpful, honestly; it isn't at all about that, but moreso the rest of the court - and how its members went about courting Kavanaugh, who appears to have no particular grounding in principle. The most interesting passage may be the contrast of Kavanaugh and Gorsuch.

Kavanaugh was the proto–frat bro who organized boozy beach trips for his friends, Gorsuch the know-it-all prig who spent his free time on the debate team. And though they ended up clerking at the same time for Justice Kennedy, they never seemed to warm up to each other. The tense nature of their relationship became a subject of speculation among the Court’s insiders. Some chalked it up to clashing personalities: “Gorsuch has somewhat sharp elbows and a lot of self-regard,” one person told me. Others pointed to signs of a competitive rivalry: When Gorsuch was nominated first for the Supreme Court, in 2017, a restless Kavanaugh began telling friends that he might retire from the D.C. Circuit and make money practicing law.

Whatever the reason, there was no mistaking their divergent styles on the bench. Gorsuch routinely stirred the pot with his purple opinions and grandiose pronouncements, self-consciously positioning himself as the right-wing heir to Antonin Scalia. Kavanaugh, meanwhile, was restrained during oral arguments, quietly siding with the majority most of the time and periodically aligning himself with the liberals. In his first term, he voted with Kagan as often as he did with Gorsuch.

    Again: Really worth a read.

Is Brett Kavanaugh Out for Revenge?

I truly wonder if the elected "trumpers" and Trump realize that both parties think they are playing each other. They both think they're "getting over" on the other at this point. I'm guessing the elected figure Trump is due for a major stroke event any day and that Trump figures they are all just rolling out the red carpet for a glide path to the '24 nomination. And they are both so wrong.

He is. And he’ll have a great chance because he he checks all the boxes in republican politics:

    1. He “owns the libs”
    2. He fights with “the media”
    3. He’s that combo of asshole and dumbass

Those are the only things that matter.

Only thing he lacks is the nationwide name recognition of the previous asshole.

Can Pelosi make her write on a blackboard 1,000 times "Black Lives Matter and Antifa are not terrorist groups"?

And if she wants to debate AOC, she should move to her district and run for her seat.

Trump will win the nomination if he decides to run. I’m surprised he hasn’t announced his candidacy already.

A lot of the Southern governors and senators are laying the groundwork for 2024 campaigns without overtly announcing it because they fear what trump may do. It’s a political dance, but trump keeps fucking it up. He is too lazy and too impulse laden that they won’t make a decision/announcement. So they try to straddle the line and they are spineless for it.

It’s like the sexual tension on a sitcom. Once the main characters do it, the show loses its draw. Trump understands that. As long as he hints and nudges, his storyline is big. As soon as he commits, he knows he has to do it. That is why the fucker dangled his name for years as running. He got the attention. He then smelled the right opportunity to go all in. He may be doing the same thing again that he did in 2016, but with more power. Wait until there are a dozen guy announced and then jump in two weeks before the SC primary and mop the floor with them.
