Every cleared individual working for the government is required to declare foreign liabilities and sources of income, except for the person who sits at the very top of the clearance hierarchy.

Why is it OK to require the grunts to disclose income they're receiving from overseas?

The emoluments clause in the Constitution, I assume.

Then why do we still have age requirements?

"People can decide for themselves" whether this candidate with a myriad of undisclosed foreign business enterprises is qualified to run for president.

But "NO!" on the sharp 33-year-old. He's barred from even being on the ballot. People cannot decide for themselves whether he's too young.

This L.A. Times column predicts Trump will resign in either 2019 or 2020, then will be pardoned.

2019 will be the worst year of Donald Trump's life

I personally don't give a damn if he's ever held to legal account for his misdeeds, I just don't want him to be president anymore. Resigning in disgrace — rather than being impeached and removed from office, so he can be martyred by the right — would be preferable.

Those age requirements were set in the Constitution. The Founders, for whatever they reasons, didn't put tax returns in the Constitution (probably because a Federal Income tax was prohibited by the Constitution at the time).

If it wasn't in the Constitution, I would agree with you. Honestly, why can't a 33 year old be President if enough people think he or she is the right person? But I don't feel strongly enough to try to spearhead a movement to amend the Constitution. If you do, and want to make the effort to get the Constitution amended, I will fully support it, for what it is worth. As I said, I think in a democracy, we should keep it as simple as possible. People can demand what they want to see or hear from their candidates.

I want to see him out of office, too. But it’s not going to happen. No way he resigns since he’s so protected while in office. The Republicans won’t vote to impeach and remove him from office either.

No one in the trump family could get the lowest level security clearance in government prior to Jan 2017.

The Donald couldn’t get security clearance to be a janitor at Google

In support of Ragu's reasoning -- there are a lot of things that we should logically expect out of our chief executive. We should expect him to possess a certain degree of literacy, for instance. We should expect that he can correctly answer 2 + 2 = ____. We should logically expect that he be able to pass the same battery of psychological and polygraphic tests that are required of all potential law enforcement officials at the lower levels of the chain of command. The argument for any one of these things being a requisite is just as strong as the one for the public disclosure of tax returns. As Ragu noted, in a democracy, those sorts of prerequisites are superfluous, because each individual has a direct vote (in theory), and can decide for himself each election cycle whether or not they are prerequisites.

Curious as I am what's in them, I'm actually kind of glad Trump's tax returns haven't been released.

Really not interested in a bunch of armchair tax analysts from CNN and MSNBC pretending to actually understand them (and falsely pointing to scandals that are nothing of the sort).

    This is nonsense.

You have frequently shown us that you are fluently financially literate; why wouldn’t you want to see them and assess for yourself? Why rely on media outlets you don’t believe?

In a matter of a few years, the guy went from broke to paying all cash for low return golf clubs in a zero interest rate environment. I'd like to know what's in the returns.
