I know you're Watford, but I'd highly recommend a trip to Craven Cottage. Best football experience in London. And Fulham will be in the Championship, probably, so maybe a little easier to score tickets.

It is interesting to wonder what happened in the eight years between Eisenhower leaving office and Nixon's inauguration. Nixon's policies weren't horrible by today's standards - his methods though were quite questionable. Somehow, the GOP abandoned the policies and embraced the methods. They've been at war with the press ever since Nixon. And I have no idea where the hawkish foreign policy of the GOP came from - was it just the rejection by the Dems after Vietnam?

Every Republican president since Ike has made an effort at détente with Russia (even Reagan did a U-turn in his last couple of years).

Democrats, meanwhile, have been quite hawkish.

    NATO expansion: Began under Clinton
    NATO bombing of Yugoslavia: Clinton
Regime change initiatives in Libya, Ukraine and Syria: Obama

Obama is the only president in US history to have his military at war for all eight years of his term. "He launched airstrikes or military raids in at least seven countries: Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan."

President Obama, who hoped to sow peace, instead led the nation in war

The GOP tried to co-opt the "military strength" label after WWII when they tried to plaster Truman as weak on communism.

Since GOP was the party of old old money, they'd been painting Roosevelt as a dirty stinking commie ever since 1933.

When the commies suddenly became the primary military adversary after the war, the GOP was ready to saddle up.

It's amusing to imagine the siren screams from the right wing screech machine if Obama hadn't launched strikes against Islamic piracy from
Yemen and Somalia. And the GOP screamed literally for months that he had to go into Libya and "do something" when Gaddhafi went down the toilet. Afghanistan, Pakistan, I think had something to do with that Osama Bin Laden guy.

Obama screwed a lot of things up, no doubt. Mostly a result of trying to do things the GOP would "respect."

Most of the hawks today are actually chickenhawks because the majority of them never served in the military. Many of them actively avoided it when there was a draft.

I definitely want to try to catch more than one game. Certainly would love to get in a game at Vicarage Road, but there are so many teams within such close range in London proper that I'd be happy to see another PL game and some Championship games as well.
