Lost in all this hubub over Northam is this question: who was the fucking idiot yearbook adviser/sponsor/editor who let that photo get published in the first place? Even in 1984 running a photo of some frat guy in a klan outfit in a college yearbook wasn't cool, unless there was a Lester Maddox University.

Exactly. In high school, embarrassing photos and text slip into print because the student editor makes stealthy, last-minute changes that the faculty supervisor misses.
This is supposed to be a professional school.

 

None. A couple of days ago he took a courageous stand on women's reproductive rights that was politically unwise.

His first instinct was right, admit it and apologize. He should have thrown in that he was a product of his environment and he has learned so much.

He should have told his black friend story on the first, not second day. The story was his black friend made him realize that going to a dance contest as a Michael Jackson (MJ) impersonator was wrong. But hey, he won the contest and was such a MJ fan that he had to ask his wife to remind him of the name of the most famous entertainer in the history of the world. Anyway he had only a dab of shoe polish under each eye.

My favorite part of this is where he says he'll use facial recognition software to prove that his is neither of the covered faces in the infamous photo.
While I'm not sure a Democrat can get out of something like this, I know this will not be a seminar in Crisis Management at the next PR conference of note.
Trumpists, on the other hand, get celebrated when their racism is exposed. Mitch McConnell, he of the grip-and-grin photo with the Confederate apologists group and the Flag of Treason behind him? Most powerful man in America other than the racist POTUS. Steve King has been a known bigot for 16 years in the House. Did they cut him loose when his bigotry was known more than a decade ago? Hardly. His became the ring to kiss for Trumpist party members seeking their klan's POTUS nomination..

 

If it's true that Northam is 6 feet - he's the one in the blackface. The Klan guy (if it is a guy) can't be more than 5'5".

He may not have a lot to be grateful for today - but he should be glad that SNL is a repeat this week and with the SOTU next week he'll be a distant memory by the next one.
