True. It can be vetoed by the President, however. The primary damage would be political if enough Senate Republicans were to vote to repudiate the emergency. Which is why they won't. All the ones saying it's unconstitutional today will say Nancy Pelosi was too mean by making us vote, so fuck what we said yesterday. The emergency is her fault!

How does a POTUS veto Congress voting down something?

It's not like a declaration of war. It falls under the national emergency law passed in the '70s as part of the procedures for an emergency. In its wisdom, the past Congress made their input subject to veto. Because Congress is an inherently cowardly body, it has spent my entire lifetime happily ceding parts of its Constitutional powers to the President. Let him or her take the heat for tough decisions. We've got some post offices to name over here.

 

Mueller is supposed to release Manafort's sentencing memo today. They often include info that he wants out there. Should be fun.

Apparently the emergency is so big Trump is headed to Mar-a-Lago after declaring it.
