President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

If people weren't attracted to the populist crap, nobody would feel "forced" to match Bernie Sanders' scapegoating and free-everything promises.

America is getting what it deserves right now. Whatever populist rhetoric gets an "anti-Trump" elected, it will be a continuation of the stupidity of the populace ushering in our own slow-drip destruction. We are a declining empire because America long ago lost the sense of individualism that once served the country really well.

The anti-Trump who best sells the next election-winning bullshit will bring more decorum and dignity to the office. And I am not understating that. But the mere fact that that is so important now demonstrates the damage we have done to our country.

Of more consequence, though, is the economic damage we have done, and will continue to do to ourselves. Someone will get elected and do more of the same kinds of dumb things that saddle us with more debt and runaway government messes that act as an economic anchor. The hyenas in Congress and the Senate will hand out more stuff to whatever constituents they feel they need to buy off to stay in power. That corruption has wide-ranging economic consequences, by funneling capital from potentially innovative areas that give people things that raise their standards of living. ... to dead, corrupt places. And because it is all debt-fueled because we allow our government to sell out our future, it is the lump of coal that will keep on giving for a long time. With each bit of it, we are that much closer to drowning in entitlement spending and our own debt.

With each day, month, year, the nonsensical fantasies both parties are selling goes on, we will sell out that much more of the future, and make the coming clean up that much more difficult.

Bernie Sanders isn't the cause of that. He's the extension of it. He's not forcing anyone anywhere. In a sane world, people would be smart enough to tell him to get lost. But in an unthinking, immediate-gratification world populated by a lot of dumb people (and it's the same stupidity that gave us Donald Trump), there are those who refuse to critically understand how destructive people like him are. So America will continue to get what it deserves, whether it is him or some scaled back version of him. At least the person destroying the country likely won't outwardly be as much of an asshole and BS artist and con man as what we did last time around. Who would have thought that would be only kind of victory we are capable of anymore?

America is getting what it deserves.
