No. He could win, but it's no lock. There's no public opinion poll that backs your theory, either the ridiculously premature head to heads or the actually relevant job approval ratings.

 

I am curious how the Mueller report recalibrates the 2020 contest. Obviously it could give the President a "clean slate" and I do think people will forget the tumult of the last two years. I think it does hurt the more progressive types in DC - I think many figured that whomever won the Dem nomination would be President and that is a lot less certain now.

 

Just going by gut feeling, that's all. I had the same gut feeling the second the Comey letter dropped in October 2016. I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong.

 

At this point, gut feelings are as valid a predictive measure as any. Election is still 20 months away. Much will happen. Trump COULD be an odds-on favorite if he'd just STFU and do smiling photo ops like Reagan, but that's not in his DNA.

I don't think there's any doubt he'll win now. Not one whisker of it.
