The idea that an actual Southerner could be elected was socially novel in 1976. Obviously nothing like Obama in 2008 but a faint hint of the same vibe.

I really hope that there will be a third button: Economy continues to chug along, after Trump is gone.

My feeling is that, in 2016, there was enough interest in Trump, and enough people were kind of intrigued by him and curious about how he might do, that people were willing to give him a chance and overlook and/or forgive his political inexperience and lack of eloquence and presidential presence, because they thought he might learn and grow into the position.

But he hasn't, and there's no way, now, that he is anything other than a one-term president.

    I agree completely about this.

I'd pay money for you to be right but I wouldn't bet that you're right. I don't think you are right. Everything else you say is correct but I'm not close to convinced yet he'll lose.

Very curious to see who ends up opposing him. Don't know enough about the candidates to know who would have the best chance. So much buzz about Mayor Pete. My old guv Terry McAuliffe may get involved here. But right now my money is on another term.

Moddy, aside from the fact Trump won once, what makes you think that? As for which Democratic candidate would have the best chance of winning, don't worry about it. Nobody knows who is "electable" and who is not. It's something invented after the fact by spin doctors and lazy pundits.

Makes me think he can win again?
I'm sure they are out there but I have yet to hear one Trump supporter I know say, "Man, I fucked that up. I want a mulligan. No way I'm supporting that clown again." Most are still very firmly in his corner.
Yeah, higher turnout in some swing states, factors like that, could make the difference. And I admit I may just be an old pessimist. But I don't see it happening.

I hope I'm wrong. I'm wrong on so many things, why can't I be on this one??

Trump’s main policy goal are all failures and it wont matter.

Build a wall and Mexico will pay is an abject failure.
Drain the swamp, I know the best people, is an abject failure.
Great negotiator, is an abject failure.
Repeal Obamacare and Replace with the best healthcare, is an abject failure.

He’s done 1 thing and the republican lobbyists wrote it for the Senate. Middle class no tax cut, increase deficit and national debt.

He’s the worst president since 1860.

Button 1 because at some point a recession will hit and I’d rather have it before the election than have it after and be stuck with Trump having four years to turning the massive recession into Great Depression II, Electric Boogaloo.

Here's a stat to cheer you up a bit. Trump got a lower percentage of the vote than Mitt Romney and about half a percent more than John McCain. He can't just keep his old voters, he needs new ones, too, or else a third party spoiler.

Every four years a new bunch of 18-20-year-olds vote Democratic.

And an old bunch of 35-50-year-old Democrats flip to Republican.

This is not so. 1. The pronounced lean towards the Democrats by young voters is a very recent phenomenon. Until Obama they were more moderately split. 2. Research indicates partisan choices don't change that much once formed, and that events are what form them or change them. I believe Reagan won young voters twice. They are the 50-plus voters of today.
