No they did not. In the Reagan era, it was young people who were going to insure the Republican majority forever. That's when white people were like 85 percent of the population, not a little less than 70 percent. I'm fuckin' old and my politics were shaped by seeing old white fogies send people I knew to die in Vietnam for nothing. It's not the old that makes the Trumpers what they are, it's the old plus the fear of the change they see around them.
