I can give you two decently sized reasons this one was probably sought after.

You watched the dancing video and didn't find her cute and sexy as can be? Damn you must have some really high standards. You must be a lucky, lucky man.

I think we can all agree she's a solid 6.

Cute and sexy on a college campus is like blue in a sky. It's kind of everywhere.

    Nah.

And here's where I'll show my disdain for the GOP: That party has never been a big picture crew. It doesn't play the long game; it's almost certainly going to lose the long game, hard, as Boomers keep passing. The GOP did not see around the corner to Trump, no matter what anyone says. The GOP shapes itself to whatever it thinks will win and is convenient in the moment to maintain wealth and power for a handful of elites. Fox News ate the party alive and crapped out The Don. And now Sean Hannity - a sniveling shit to end them all - has the ear of the president. Nobody wanted that. (The gulf between even Rush Limbaugh and Hannity is real.)

Whether the GOP is right or wrong, I dunno, but they're picking on AOC because the GOP believes putting her out front serves the GOP's short-term electoral interests. The GOP doesn't want to diminish her...it wants to build her into a political superpower that scares the crap out of people.

The more FNC does that, the thinking goes, the more endeared progressive liberals become to her, the more her ideas get aired, the more likely a Democratic candidate not named Joe Biden gets nominated, the more turned off the centrist voter becomes. The second pathway could be that Pelosi finally tells AOC to lower her profile as the debates heat up, AOC bristles to that, is vocal about it on Twitter, and the Democrats spend the next 18 months fighting for the soul of their own party.

She's a bigger problem for the Democrats in the short term. The media adores her. Twitter - the land of 27-year-old coastal professionals - do, too. The question becomes whether that's the heart of the party - and, by proxy, makes her the face of it - or the heart is whatever pragmatic path Pelosi's trying to pave.

If Biden is the guy for the Democrats, McCain's whole family may stump for him. They'll go out on the trail and say "if you loved John McCain, vote for Biden." And that's worth some votes in a few swing states.

My hunch - and maybe I'm wrong - is that there are lot of 20 and 30-somethings on the coasts covering politics now, and they'll look for stories that prop up younger, more progressive candidates.
