Well, pardon me for agreeing with your idea while also mentioning it had crossed my mind as well.

I didn't bring it up because I prefer the option of free four-year college education, but it wouldn't be a bad compromise.

Slacker is the first person in the history of the world to suggest that it is community college that should be free to citizens in the United States!

    There. Ya happy?:D

I mentioned that earlier, but does anybody know if there are other states with scholarship programs similar to Excelsior? The implementation of Excelsior has been shaky at best.

I know Andrew Cuomo was a big supporter of that one in New York. He's got an interesting history regarding education. He often claims to be a friend to education, but that hasn't always been the case.

17 states offer some version of free college. Rules vary.

Azrael provided a link. I do know that noted bastions of liberalism Georgia and Wyoming have embraced socialism by guaranteeing a large amount of financial aid for students who stay in-state. Supposedly it has dramatically increased the academic profile of UGa, as smart in-state kids no longer leave. Wyoming did it in an attempt to staunch the brain-drain so typical of the Plains/Rocky Mountain states other than Colorado.

I think there's some political motivation to it. The presumption is the more educated one becomes, the more enlightened they'll be, the more progressive they'll become, too. I'm not even indicting the motivation. Hell, in life, we're motivated by things.

It's the piety I object to - that progressives are only motivated by the very and purest intentions - that I object to. Let's just admit we're all humans and the range of superiority, progressive to conservative, isn't as great as we'd like to think it is. I said before and will again: It's part of how we got Trump. The man lies and lies, plays the devil, and wins - because people think every politician is the devil. Trump wins because he's their devil.

In other words, it's working for the kids who'd have been in college anyway.

Don't love the look. Too much like Army.

Memorial gym's a good one. So is the other raised court, Williams Arena. Recommend both. (Mackey Arena does, too. I've been there as well.)

Isn't Illinois's arena a carbon copy of Mackey?

Obama: My mind is aglow with whirling, transient nodes of thought careening thru a cosmic vapor of invention.

    Trump: Ditto!
