Third option: She did it to force the question with Democrats running for president.

And did everything possible to make sure it happened.

Kids' table. Grilled cheese and chips.

We're calling Chuck Todd a whore for interviewing the president. Good stuff.

That's fair. The plan reads a lot like broad amnesty mixed with remarkably lenient standards for arriving in the US - so a mix of no policy with the kick-the-can policy we've long had - but it's a plan.

Since it appears you're leaning into your newfound gadfly role, what would you like to see happen regarding U.S. immigration policy?

I wonder if Trump will call him Sleepy Eyes if he asks a tough question. Though, that would require Todd to do that in the first place.

    Amy,

Mea culpa. What I wrote this morning was sarcastic in nature, but from a sincere point, at least to me. For reasons to long to explain, anti semitism and holocaust denying are my touch points. They piss off me to no end and they are two things I will fight tooth and nail on. When AOC first made her comment, it rankled me but I kept quiet. However, when I saw the waves of people trying to minimize it this morning, I got mad. I felt that if trump or some republican shitbag had said this, they would have been vilified and rightfully so. I would been in the front row with an axe. Instead, I saw what I felt was normalization. I reacted with a shitty remark.

Can he stay in as an independent, assuming he doesn't win the primary, and split the vote? That would be fantastic. Unless he actually wins, which is a non-zero possibility.

It starts with mandatory, aggressive E-Verify and all the logistical support needed to make it nationwide and widespread. Keep the Dreamers - set a maximum age limit - give them a year to apply and be confirmed and, in that year, E-Verify is being implemented, workforce changes are allowed to happen, etc. After that? Penalties with big teeth.

One component might be a universal health care system, run by the government, that also has E-Verify and locks out undocumented immigrants from care without deportation. (Or forces the opening of out-of-UHCS clinics that function as non-profits for undocumented immigrants, seeking donations.) I can appreciate that'd be tough. I can. But, at some point, the incentive to come here and willingly be exploited at the bottom of the economic food chain - because their origin nations are so crime and poverty-ridden - is no real solution.

The refugee issue is remarkably complex. Just remarkably so.

I'm liking your post not because I necessarily agree with most of it, but because you definitely put some thought into it.

Let me ask, what would be wrong with blanket amnesty? Everyone who's here, provided they don't have a record more serious than some traffic tickets, gets to stay? Most of them have already paid taxes and consumed, so they've added to the economy. Why not let them continue to do so?

You mean like then-Senator Harry ("if we see the Red Army is winning we should support the Germans") Truman?
