Only in the last 10 years or so did they have sessions every year. This year was the "long one" 180 days, the even years are 90 days. There are a lot of things in the Constitution designed to limit government growth and spending.* There are meetings and interim committee hearings between sessions, but no laws can be passed out of a designated session.

* - There is a law that if tax revenues exceed a certain amount more than the previous year - the difference gets "kicked back" to taxpayers. Which sounds great, but the economy has been going very well meaning that the state can't reap any of the growth in the good times and improve infrastructure to sustain the growth and when the economy goes south, there isn't a rainy day fund.

 

Stupid argument, of course. People from Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties are just as much Oregonians as those outside of the Willamette Valley. It's the same phony morally-superior attitude used in Wisconsin, where the GOP claims that Badgers from Dane County aren't real Badgers.

Oregon had Republican senators (Hatfield, Packwood, Smith) well into the 1980s-early 1990s before the party started turning batshit crazy and drove off all the moderates. Why do Democrats win in Oregon? Because there's a lot more of them.
