America gets a disproportionate but deserved smack down for slavery. Slavery is not and never was an American invention. It existed in every corner of the human experience and no nation or tribe is exempt from its stain. African were engaging in slavery before Moses was a baby. It’s a human invention that has existed since recorded time. It just happened to end, mostly, in America because this hemisphere was the last to be domesticated. The horrible and peculiar institution lasted for About 80 years until the end of the Civil War. What made America deplorable was not slavery, per se. it was the subsequent 100 years. The 640,000 white Union dead and wounded were a significant price to be paid to liberate and eradicate slaves and slavery. It’s was the failed reconstruction and subsequent dehumanizing treatment of the former slaves which is the American crime. The book on slavery is closed with the Union soldier’s blood. The crime of bigotry and segregation is the crime for which this country needs to atone. It started to atone from the late 50’s until 2016. Trump is the 2nd president of the Confederacy.

 

Our nation started from scratch, with a clean slate few nations can claim. Founded on the whole idea of freedom from oppression.

We shit on everything we're "supposed" to stand for before the ink on the Declaration of Independence was dry.

 

The form of government started from scratch, the people and their religion and secular civilization were already in place. Unlike South America, namely Brazil and the Caribbean , where slavery was a larger part of the overall economy, America was slow to shed slavery and horrible about incorporating the former slaves into society. One day the slaves were British property, the next day American property, to them there was no clean slate.

There’s always a cate system, feudal, serfdom, class system in place everywhere, ours was worse because of the basis of the founding of the country.
