Everyone knows one of president Trump's favourite activities is bringing his daughter Ivanka along to literally everything, despite the fact that she has no experience in diplomacy whatsoever. ...

One moment in particular, which will most likely go down as the most toe-curlingly awkward exchange in G20 history, is Ivanka trying to get involved in a talk with Theresa May, Justin Trudeau, Emmanuel Macron, and IMF head Christine Lagarde. Yes, really.

The moment, which is now trending on social media, shows Lagarde rolling her eyes while Ivanka tries to get a word in and if that doesn't make you want to sink into a hole in the ground and never come back, then we don't know what will.

Apparently, the value of symbolic gestures is completely lost on BTE. I guess it's one of the ways to normalize President Trump, to ignore his role this country's primary representative to the world.

 

I saw Lagarde's reaction to Ivanka inserting herself into that conversation described as "nuclear side-eye".

That's still a great image, but there was a flicker of impatience and disdain that crossed Lagarde's face. Icepick eyes.

For some reason, I hear the old theme of "America's Funniest Home Videos" in my mind's ear as I watch Ivanka attempt to bridge the biggest gap between intellect and role since Denise Richards tried to portray a nuclear physicist:

"America, America, this is yooooouu ..."

This is what the country exports to the world in Trump's America: irredeemable stupidity worthy of contempt. It's one thing to have it coming from Hollywood. Quite another from D.C.
