    There are a lot of voters from each side that see their politics more as part of their identity than a carefully evaluated decision. This identity is formed by their upbringing, their friends, geography and their occupation. Hell of a lot easier to blame the other side for various misfortune than question your identity and potentially feel ostracized from your social circle.
    I don't think there is anything the Ds could do to gain more white working class voters these days - the cultural stuff outweighs the economic stuff - particularly because the cultural stuff is so much more a part of their identity.
