I remember when I was with CNN...seems a thousand centuries ago...we went into Fayetteville to cover a MAGA rally. We left the rally after we had what we needed and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there and they had shredded every copy of the New York Times we had left behind. There they were in a pile...a pile of little shreds of newsprint. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. The red hats kept saying the presidents calls with foreign leaders were perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were crazier than we. Because they could pretend that they were not monsters, but loyal, trained cadres. They had embraced horror and moral terror.
