I think you've summed it quite well.

 

On the one hand - I think Smith is the kind of guy that in no way would want to be seen as bailing out a day after Trump railed at Fox News - The people at Fox had to know this would be the narrative if he left - voluntarily or otherwise. He's an original hire who just signed a new contract last year.

I'm guessing it was the sniping back and forth with the opinion hosts that was the final straw.

 

But were they "Obama" judges?

 

I'm pretty sure for that the Attorney General to be double-dipping would be incredibly illegal, and even if Trump somehow kept Barr safe from prosecution, he'd be disbarred very quickly, and hence unable to serve as AG, because he wouldn't be an A anymore.

 

Trump doesn’t pay anybody. Ten cities are still awaiting payment for hosting his klan rallies.

 

I have seen reports contradicting the security escort part of the story. And I have trouble believing Murdoch would respond to Barr leaning on him. To Rupe, all pols are menials.

 

I want to think Barr is being paid by the Mercers, but the reports are that even they are unhappy with the orange floater's performance.
So I think Barr is a guy in the autumn of life who is not content enough to be a former AG with plenty of money.
But rather someone who wants to put his stamp on history.
