    Gets even worse than this. Jared Kushner's real estate company was all over that opportunity zone scam. Yes, a lot of the zones they set up are in really crappy places where poverty is entrenched. But none of the insiders who gamed the thing to get the capital gains tax breaks have any interest in doing development in the slums the act said it was trying to revitalize.

    Instead, they got parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Menlo Park, California not far from Stanford, and a few other places with decent growth prospects like those, designated as opportunity zones. And those are the places they are developing, of course reaping the financial benefit of the much lower taxes. You could write a textbook on government corruption from how this whole thing has gone down.
