    Duncan Hunter, had affairs with staff, under criminal indictment, still in Congress
    Scott DesJardais, impregnated mistress, wanted her to have abortion despite being "pro-life," still in Congress.
    Katie Hill resigns. Anybody really wonder why the gender gap in American politics keeps getting bigger?

    I have seen many pols, Republicans and Democrats alike, booed for horning in on big sports events. Fans don't like it. Trump and DC might be a special case, but not that special.
    PS: At Super Bowl XXXII, the week the Monica Lewinsky story broke, the pregame scoreboard video included a welcome from President Bill Clinton. It wasn't booed, but greeted with loud raucous laughter. I think that's much more humiliating than a boo.
    PPS: Princeton historian Kevin Kruse found a 1974 AP story about a Connecticut high school and Division III football ref who was having the shit booed out of him at every game because his name was Richard Nixon.

    Honestly, you can pick and choose two examples to fit any narrative you want. But these scandals end up all over the place, depending on who it is , where they are from and who they represent, and where they are in their lives. Someone like Duncan Hunter isn't a good example, because he's shameless, under indictment, and he probably stands to benefit more from keeping the seat than giving it up, given the vat of shit he's in. DesJarlais is from one of those Southern districts where he could do just about anything and it would be OK, so he really probably sees no reason to resign.

    You can also go back over the last 10 year and find a bunch of male politicians who have resigned or didn't seek reelection for sexually harrassing staffers or having extramarital affairs with staffers. It's not a clear cut "gender gap" story. Marc Souter, Vance McAllister, Blake Fahrenhold, Pat Meehan are a few. And then there are at least a dozen other men who resigned because of sex scandals, usually sending skeevy photos to women via Craigslist ads or being all Christian and then getting caught with their winkies in a dozen women other than their wives.

    Given her circumstances, Hill is probably making the right choice for her future by resigning. She needs to take the spotlight off herself, let it age and die away and then she can try to get back to whatever ambitions she has that she can revive in the wake of it. Each of the people this happens to have different circumstances, and they are making decisions based on what they will get out of it. In her case, she stands to benefit more from resigning. That isn't about her gender. It's about how you make the best of a bad situation.

    Hill chose to resign. Nancy Pelosi didn't order her to or anything. But it would be a paradoxically healthy sign for sexual equality if a woman in Hill's position chose to brazen it out just like an asshole male Congressman.

    I didn't suggest that I think she will run for Congress again.

    I also have no idea what the future holds for her when this blows over. Time will tell.

    C’mon. Hill knew there were more photos. The ex husband is a bad dude, and had her to rights, but if that’s what you’re doing in your first 9 months of politics, you weren’t ready for it.
