It could be worse. Alabama's 1902 Constitution, which is still in effect, was designed to do two things: to institutionalize Jim Crow and to see that large landholder's property taxes remain low. It worked wonderfully well at both, at least till the meddling Yankee do-gooders forced Civil Rights down the state's throat. It is worth of note that the case that was used to roll back enforcement of the Voting Rights Act originated in Shelby County, an affluent Republican stronghold just south of Birmingham.

That Constitution has since been amended until it is the size of a large metropolitan telephone book. It is a horrible document, but if a change is desired the choices are either to write yet another amendment or hold a Constitutional Convention. Most of us are terrified by the thought of what would emerge once the various interest groups and lobbying money got involved.

He is a bad guy, but thad doesn't mean anything you say about his family or other supporters is justifiable no matter how awful it is or how young they are.
