The thing I will never understand -- no matter how much I try to wrap my arms around it -- is how anyone with a functioning cerebral cortex that was in the USFL in the 1980s or the golf world over the last few decades could vote for him. These are places where his reputation for malfeasance and penchant for spreading feces on every wall and piece of furniture are well-known. I have some acquaintances who were in the USFL in those days and I asked them about this. They all responded with some version of "I couldn't vote for that woman" or "I couldn't vote for another crooked Clinton."

How the fuck did you type this with a straight face?

He opened his campaign by riding down an escalator and declaring that Mexicans trying to cross the border were drug dealers and rapists.

He called for a ban on all Muslims entering the country after the San Bernardino attacks.

He repeatedly encouraged - or at least did not prevent - violence against protesters at his rallies.

He suggested "second amendment" people could take care of Hillary Clinton for her stance on gun control, then suggest her secret service detail should disarm themselves and see what happens.

He repeatedly attacked a gold star service member's family.

He promoted the belief that vaccines cause autism. He connected Ted Cruz's father to the Kennedy assassination and insulted Cruz's wife, and his "apology" for the "grab them by the pussy" tape was to attack the Clintons.

Oh, and for years he was the most visible proponent of the insane notion that Barack Obama wasn't an American citizen. Being the chief cheerleader for the birther movement should have permanently branded him as an idiot, yet somehow he managed to do that, do all of the above, and still get elected president.

    Criminy, indeed.

Just to make it clear, many , many people knew what kind of an idiot he is. New York for instance. There was plenty of evidence before election day. Plenty of it the day he declared his campaign. We just can't say that people did not know. Also plenty of signed declarations of warnings about him by many resected groups. Just don't say that we didn't know. The info was there way way before the election.

A lot of people thought the bluster would calm down after the campaign and he would be happy just to enjoy all the presidential trimmings without actually bothering with running the country, that he would just leave that boring shit to his advisers. And would actually listen to them.

Long AFTER the election, people ON THIS BOARD still claimed he didn't want to be president, never expected to actually win, and wouldn't bother with a second term because who the hell wants this horrible job anyway?

This thread is not 13,158 pages long because Donald Trump did exactly what you thought he would do.

I have to say, however, that I was amused by THIS observation four days after the election (bold italics are mine):

We link tweets and reduce anyone who steps a centimeter out of line to 2- or 3-word adjectives. Five centimeters out of line, and you get the ban hammer. That's our discussion.
At least we limit our soul-crushing vitriol to descriptions of administration officials hanging by piano wire around here.

I thought that this thread was 13,158 long because, while it is almost painfully obvious that Donald Trump cheats at golf, there are still a few folks who refuse to accept it as a fact.

Donald is finally living the life he always wanted, 24/7/365 attention. He’s the center of the room, the city, the nation and the world. He’s been a joke and a punchline and a failure since trump tower. He was reduced to reality gameshow host and bag man for the Russian mafia. And now he’s potus. If only he could figure a way to dump melania so he could have a different foxnews babe for every photo op, he’d be happy. But he is who he’s always been, a shallow, narcissistic, stupid pedarist whose delusions of grandeur came true

Have to come up with a replacement for Chick-fil-A in the redneck lexicon. They're off the shitlist.

I don’t remember if I thought he’d leave the actual business of the country to others while enjoying the privileges of the job, but I know I hoped he would and gave him the benefit of the doubt up until his inaugural speech.

I still don’t think he wants to be POTUS four more years, but it’s been made clear enough that he even understands what happens when he’s out of office.
