Trump did this solely for Bolton, who now feels indebted to Trump and will not testify before the Senate.

Killimeade is way too stupid, uneducated and embarrassingly dull to be arrogant. Frankly, so are 99% of FoxNews. The largest collection of dimwits outside the carnival midway of the Iowa State Fair.

I can't help but feel that Iran will make an attack in retaliation. Their leaders will be hearing demands for one.

I saw a tweet earlier, and I didn't retain who it was who said it, but it was to the effect of "Suppose David Petraeus was assassinated in an attack while he was at the Baghdad airport?" We'd be moving the stealth bombers into place and Delta Force would be getting briefed on who they'd be hitting within days. This ham-fisted attack is going to give Iran legitimacy as the victim in the eyes of the international community. It will likely also give them help rallying their influence in Iran, which has been somewhat spotty.

Of all of Trump's ill conceived and impulsive foreign policy decisions, this has the potential to be the worst by far.

I really don't think our country has the appetite for another Middle East war, nor does our country have the appetite for any kind of economic crisis.

If one or the other happens before the next election, I fail to see how this helps our current president?

    Agreed on all of that.
And there is no plan and there never was - this was pure impulse.[/QUOTE]

I fully expect McConnell to spin this as "We can't weaken a sitting president during a huge foreign policy crisis, a potential shooting war, by holding an impeachment trial in the Senate. It will have to be delayed until the crisis in the Middle East has resolved." Given that the Middle East has been in near continual crisis since at least 1967, that has the potential to slide Trump to the election without facing the music.

I get frustrated with NPR as well. They'll have a perfectly good print story on their site, but try to link it and you get the radio version instead.

At least we have at this perilous moment a commander in chief who has more than a decade of federal government experience including four years as secretary of state.
