If the nature of the calls wasn't problematic, why'd Flynn lie about it?

 

Because he wanted to fit in with his boss?

 

Because it is so written as to be almost impossible to violate and because individual Americans have little negotiating power if they're not officially or unofficially sponsored by the government (which happens all the time, from "Bridge of Spies" to Jimmy Carter) so nobody tries to violate. "Little-used" is an understatement, no case has been brought under it for well over 100 years.

 

This is probably not true, but it speaks to the current political climate that I'm inclined to believe it might be:

We have a friend in LA City fire. Nice guy. He received a $600,000 DROP to stay on the force a few more years (he has a desk job). That is on top of the generous pension.

He is giving up half that $600k to "retire early". He starts a new job in Riverside county next month.

SWEAR TO GOD, 5 minutes after his wife announced his retirement to us, she talked about the high taxes in California.
