    I'm trying to figure out why the Legislative and Executive branches are having to "negotiate" anything.
    Get together and DYDJ.
    Negotiations are for budgets and such, not for the life of the citizens you have sworn to serve.

    The Executive Branch and 1/2 of the Legislative Branch are controlled by an authoritarian death cult. It's hostage negotiation, not political negotiation. My personal theory is Trump knows he's been exposed to the virus, is deathly afraid he's got the virus (hence he won't get tested) and because of his narcissism is quite willing to take the country down with him if he has it.

    Of course, there is a worst-case scenario for Democrats here.

    Prominent people get the virus. Not being old or vulnerable, nothing bad happens to them. In fact, except for the aforementioned groups (to which fatal stuff is always happening to anyway,) the whole thing fades away in the summer sun.

    With the stimulus flooding into the economy, the Dow roars back. Everybody still has a job. And Trump is looking "presidential" - for having lucked through once again.

    Never underestimate the ability of the American electorate to sleep things off.

    None of that is going to happen. They'll push through a trillion dollars of wasteful spending and it will get tacked onto our national debt. Absent earnings, though, the equity bubble is done. We are facing massive credit defaults over the next year or two, and right now the US treasury market is showing stress that would have been unthinkable 15 or 20 years ago. The Fed will do QE Infinity to keep trying to monetize all of that added debt everyone is talking about now. It's all they know and all they can do at this point. They are all in. But there is no longer a market for US treasuries aside from the Fed being the buyer, so the question is how long can we create money out of thin air and buy our own debt with it before there is a dollar crisis that puts an end to the madness. Whether it happens that dramatically or not, we are destroying our country.

    As for everybody still having a job. ... there is a ton of suffering on the horizon, unfortunately.

    And the word "presidential" and Trump will never be put in the same sentence, except maybe by Chris Collins or someone like that.

    I don't underestimate the ability of the American electorate to sleep things off, but they are not going to be able to sleep off the misery that is coming. The fact that Donald Trump was only a very small part of what brought on that misery won't matter.
