If it was easy to suddenly produce enough masks, someone would be doing it without the government ordering them to do it. As it turns out, 1) It is surprisingly difficult to manufacture those N95 masks and 2) The US doesn't produce stuff, we rely on China to produce things, and even though China retooled some Nike factories to produce masks in a relatively short period of time, they aren't making enough to supply the whole globe.

But sure. Invoke the Defense Production Act to force factories that don't exist in the United States to produce millions of masks. It sounds so good.

He's going to be doing (and loudly announcing) lots of stuff that sounds good but is of dubious efficiency. It's what he does best, "Hey, look at me, only I can protect you" while pushing bullshit projects or simply saying he is doing something with zero follow through.

    Trump defends ‘Chinese virus’ comments

“It’s not racist at all,” Trump said in defending of his and his allies’ use of terms like “the Chinese virus” and “the Wuhan virus,” a reference to the city where it originated. “It comes from China, that’s why,” the president continued. “It comes from China. I want to be accurate.”

Inaccurate racist claims he's not racist or inaccurate.

Not sure what poll he’s referencing. His favorite, the overtly Trumpist Rasmussen, has him at 46 A, 53 D. A couple weeks ago, he was -1. Now -7. In his favorite poll.

I used to respect Bill Ackman. I didn't think he was a good guy, but I thought he was money savvy. I was really wrong. He's not just a dipshit, he's really just a garden variety con man. Whatever his game was, trust me, he was talking his book. It is perfectly within his MO to use a crisis to get his mug on TV, get the host (in this case Scott Wapner) to kiss his ass for being so kind, and then execute a pump and dump scheme of some sort to try to enrich himself. I hope Carl Icahn was watching, got pissed off again, and laid a trap to take some more of Ackman's money.

Has anyone else read many Travis McGee novels? Here's an excerpt from a book written in 1965. When I read it this morning, I about came out of my chair.

"Reasonable conservatism is a healthy thing. But that kind of poisonous divisionist hate-mongering (he) has been preaching is one of the standard Communist techniques. If you create a radical right, their vicious nonsense pushes more people into violence or silence. ... any way that they can make Americans hate Americans helps the cause. That is the heart of contemporary propaganda, to strengthen ignorant terrible men who believe themselves to be perfect patriots."
