One of my wife's best friends here is a nurse manager at Mass. General. She emailed today in response to a suggestion for a mid-April get together with Alice that she has been working from home, but will now go into the hospital a few days a week, so no. I take that as a very bad sign. If the country's best hospital is running a little short of nurses, what about the rest of them?

 

Running short this "early", as well.

 

The most optimistic interpretation is that my neighbor is being called in because they need staffing expertise able to make very rapid decisions. But that's not very optimistic, is it?
