The long and short of it is of you screw everyone, it's ok under our system. You can't deprive voting rights based on race because it only screws specific people. Same with women and young adults. The constitution is remarkably light about voting except when we vote nationally, what national offices we vote for and who can't be deprived to vote. The rest is left up to states to decide in the "most fair" way how voting will go. As much as this situation sucks, you do need to offer a system that is equitable to all candidates and allows people the most certainty the votes are the true votes. The courts are not going to bend over backwards to allow last minute changes. You can argue the court could have recognized the public good (to which I agree) and made an exception granted the circumstance but I think the court wants to limit what is an extreme circumstance.
