President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

In the long term, W. caused the most damage to the USA and the world with Iraq.

But - gaffe-wise - we get "Mission Accomplished" every week with Trump. So I think the time needed for disillusionment is a lot shoter.

 

Yeah, watch, that'll just set the MAGGATs off on another jag of "how do we know Osama is really dead?"

 

Is the Russia bounty story going to have an impact? It seems to be sticking more than most of Trump’s awful behavior.

I’ve never understood how current and former military families can support this guy. Other than than it’s a group that always leans R.

I would like to think this causes some to rethink that position which this particular person.

People have already soured on Trump because of Covid and the protests, so this Russian thing is an opportunistic infection. Normally it wouldn't do much because the base would just fight it and pretend like this isn't a big deal. But the base is too busy trying to fight the more serious infections so this one gets more traction.

That and it goes after the the sacred cow of sacred American cows: The troops. People love the troops more than they love just about anything else. Trump ignoring a threat to the precious troops is a real existential crisis for his base.

This does seem to have more legs than I thought it would. We'll see how big it gets. It may fizzle out. But you're right. It's only getting traction because it involves Our Troops. If somebody with courage at the Pentagon can round up mug shots of everybody killed because of Trump's indifference, those photos should be everywhere. Nightly news. Billboards. Everywhere.
Nominal Republicans always get more credit than they should for two things: the economy and the military. They walk into the presidency with the presumption that they're the best stewards of both. And it's nonsense.
